Ribs and Shrimp – Blended Family

Soul food for dinner tonight.
If you ask me what my two favorite fun foods are it’s a split from childhood and adult life. Spiced steamed shrimp and smoked spare ribs. I’m allergic to crabs so this is what I munched on in MD.
I took the easy route this time and used a packaged rub – Bad Byron’s Butt Rub. Added some brown sugar too. Smoked them for thirty min with hickory chips, then slow cooked at 250-300 for two hours. Then wrapped them in foil with some apple juice and rested them in a cooler for a couple hours. Fired up the grill later to warm them up topped off with some bottled BBQ sauce. This was accompanied by 2 lbs of steamed spiced shrimp (old bay of course) and some corn and green beans. Making the shrimp is so easy. Get fresh prawns in the shell and put them in a colander. Cover with old bay seasoning. Boil some water in a pot about the same size as the colander (mine is a little smaller to let some steam out) and put the colander on top then the lid on top. Steam for 3 minutes and then shuffle the shrimp. Add more old bay on top and steam for another 3 minutes till they are pink but still firm.
Oh. And just steam the beans and either boil corn on the cob or simply get some frozen of each and microwave. Simple and good. Or you can wrap the corn cobs with butter and salt and put them in the grill with the ribs.
Dats how we roll as a mixed GA MD family here in the Charanis household.
